In a year when so many of my Christmas traditions can’t be enjoyed (I’ll not be home for Christmas) I have been able to start a delicious new one. In a stroke of genius, the Non-Country-Fan Boyfriend got me a Bourbon and American Whiskey advent Calendar. I suspect he thought this was a clever way to get his own lips on the variety of drams inside, but no such luck. This calendar was something I’d been lusting after for years though I’ve let him ‘share’ the ones I’m not keen on. (I’m still not sure I’e recovered from the burn of the Balcones Texas Rye 100 proof).
Since my enjoyment of the brown stuff was undoubtably a result of country music brainwashing, I challenged myself to pair each whiskey unveiled with a suitable country song. (I mean, what else was there to do while in tier 3?) I left our my favourite tune, Whiskey Lullaby, because a song about drinking to death didn’t seem to fit the Christmas spirit. But fortunately there are plenty of wildly varied country songs about whiskey to choose from. The result is a 24 song mix of both traditional (Johnny Cash) and pop (Little Big Town) country, covering all your whiskey moods from party to break up.
“I have loved some ladies, And I have loved Jim Beam, And they both tried to kill me in 1973”
Hank Williams Jr ‘Family Tradition’

Anyway, Christmas, albeit a different looking one, is almost here. I’ve found out that not everyone was drinking all the drams as they went along… Please let my mum know I’ve also been doing non-alcoholic advent activities (like the zoom nativity) so all is not lost.
Merry Christmas y’all,
