Brantley Gilbert’s formerly postponed UK tour is now cancelled. This leaves me with a ticket to London and a country music hole to fill. Here are three suggestions of this weekend’s London events of for anyone who’s in the same position.
1. The raw harmonies of my potential new favourite band, North Carolina duo… Mandolin Orange – Sat 7th May, Bush Hall. They’re sharing the stage with Josh Oliver and Jessica Bishop.

2. The regular live music and DJ night Come on Down and meet the Folks takes place on the second and last Sunday each month, which luckily includes Sunday 8th May, Apple Tree Pub. This week features singer-songwriters Bonnie Dobson and Naomi Randall

3. Old soul, young package; the already timeless sounding Texan Cale Tyson‘s playing Sat 7th May, Shacklewell Arms with a full band.

4. Kate Voegele and Tyler Hilton are both TV stars (One tree Hill fans anyone?), both singer-songwriters, and both joint headliners on Sunday 8th May, Scala. You may recognise Tyler from playing Elvis in Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.

Of course we’re wishing Brantley and family all the best. In the meantime, I’m choosing to see this as an opportunity to discover some new music and hope the weekend can still be Bottom’s Up…
