I can only imagine the torture social media must be at the moment for any UK country music fan who can’t make it to one of the C2C festivals. We are guilty of contributing to your woes. There is bound to be a deluge of blurry stage shots and pulled pork selfies from us over the next 3 days.
But despair not. While it’s true, I wouldn’t choose to swap places with you and miss this weekend (unless your on holiday in Nashville?), there are plenty of options to get your country fix away from C2C. Really.
1.Tune in to Radio 2s 4 day pop-up country music station from 9th-12th March 2017.
There’ll be special programmes like Trevor Nelson on the relationship between country and R’n’B, presenting spots from country stars and some live coverage of the event.
Tune in here or catch up on BBC iPlayer.
2. Book your next country fix.
C2C is “THE” UK country music event because it’s epic. But when it first started it was literally THE UK country music even because there was no competition. That’s not the case now. You can check the Chris Country Gig Guide here for some news of more brilliant country events coming your way. Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett and all have UK tours later in the year and a few of the C2C acts (like Canaan Smith) are going on to play local solo shows next week.
3. Treat yourself.
The bad news is you’re missing out on all the merchandise but the good news is you have the Internet. Check out our shopping guide for where in the UK buy western wear, country music themed gifts and even official C2C festival souvenirs via Firebrand Stores.
4. Look forward to BBC Four Country TV shows.
Next week (Friday 17th March) there’s a line up of shows on including The Shires, a documentary on the growing UK country scene, worked on by a great colleague of mine.
5. If all else fails, buy some barbecue sauce.
Put it on everything. Cereal, custard creams…
Now, sorry to rub it in but, I’m off to the O2.If you can stand to the C2C pictures, please like our new facebook page.
I hope you have a great weekend, whatever you’re doing,
